As a nutritionist, people always ask me what is ONE thing I can do to improve my digestion? Of course it’s a loaded question, that only an in depth consultation could truly answer, but most people stand to benefit from warmed morning lemon water.
A cup of room temperature to warm water with a few drops of lemon juice squeezed into it- first thing in the morning- does wonders for digestion.
While you are sleeping, the liver accumulates toxins in bile. The lemon juice causes the gall bladder to contract, allowing the bile to flow into the small intestine, to the large intestine and then eliminated. It’s like opening the blinds to let the morning sunshine in instead of keeping them closed all day. (thanks Cal) You will start your day with a liver ready to take on the world- of your digestion that is!
I highly suggest you try this out tomorrow morning.
Drink it first thing in the morning, upon rising, and wait 30 minutes before you eat or drink anything else. Always use filtered or boiled water and always use a real lemon (or lime).
